Welcoming Associate Director Alex Winder
We are delighted to announce that Alex Winder has assumed the role of associate director of the Center of Middle East Studies (CMES). Alex Winder is a historian of modern Palestine, with interests in law, law-breaking, and policing, as well as diaries and other forms of life-writing. He received his Ph.D. in history and Middle Eastern and Islamic studies from New York University and joined Brown University in 2017 as a postdoctoral research associate in Palestinian Studies. Alex has been a visiting assistant professor in Middle East Studies at Brown from 2018 until 2024, serving in that time as director of undergraduate studies for the Middle East Studies concentration. He is also co-editor of the Jerusalem Quarterly, the leading journal on the past, present, and future of Jerusalem. He is excited to continue and expand his work with colleagues, students, and the community as associate director of the Center for Middle East Studies.
